Source Material (SM) is a student-led publication supported by ArtCenter’s Writing Center. Created by and for students, SM is dedicated to publishing work that celebrates multidisciplinary collaboration and challenges traditional, institutionalized design. With each issue, we hope to bridge voices between classroom and department walls.

Issue 07: Love

Spring 2024
Love excites us, strengthens us, supports us in times of need, and brings us together. In this issue, we feature diverse accounts of love from our contributing students/alumni. From stories of their first love and crushes to spicy romance, these stories add up to what love means in each and every one of us—how each of us define it and feel it. I illustrated the main publication cover, codesigned the mini zine/tote bag, and animated the graphics for social media posts.

WorkshopWe provided prompts related to love as well as a “starter pack” worksheet for the attendees to write about their partner, friend, ideal type, or anyone they love. In addition to the main publication, we created a separate mini zine to specifically feature these workshop creations. We also created boxes and set them up around campus to collect anonymous notes about love from students.
Release PartyTo match the theme of love for the release event, we painted wooden cubes red to use as a base to display the publications. We also produced a limited run of screenprinted tote bags featuring 20 heart drawings from our contributors.
